FAQ
Can I form my own distribution business?
No. A distributor is required to operate a distribution firm.
You must follow certain rules, even though you are not distributing films of other people.
You cannot, for instance, charge different prices at different theaters. You can't charge different fees for different customers.
Also, you can't offer your services to any other company.
What is the difference in a distributor and a producer?
The movie is produced by a producer. The distributor distributes the movie. A distributor can distribute the movie to theaters or other companies such as Netflix. Distributors buy movies directly from producers. They then sell them on to theaters or cable channels, as well as streaming services.
Distributors will need to negotiate with theatre owners about the location of their movies. This could mean that certain theaters may charge more for a particular movie than others. If you want your movie to be seen by as many people as possible, you should choose a distributor with many theaters.
How much does it take to distribute a feature?
A distribution deal can cost anywhere from $100,000 to $150,000.
The average theater cost is about $10,000.
The average cost per screen is around $5,000.
That means that if you have 100 screens, then your distribution fee would be around $500,000.
If you have ten screens, your distribution fees would be $50,000.
What is the average number of movies Hollywood makes in a year?
Hollywood studios make approximately 3,000 films annually. That's right, three thousand!
Hollywood spends billions on film advertising. They spend millions making them. They spend millions to promote them. But how many end up actually getting seen in the theaters, do you think?
The answer is most likely between 200 and 300. What happens then to the 2,700+ remaining films? Well, most are either made as direct-to-video releases, or they just sit there gathering dust in storage vaults.
Not all of them will be undiscovered. Some of them have been selected for distribution via Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu Plus, iTunes, Google Play, etc.
Why don't they get more? Why aren’t they being shown in theaters instead? Because they're too expensive to produce.

How To
How to get a Hollywood Walk of Fame star
The Hollywood Walk of Fame (HWOF) was established in 1960 by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. The HWOF can be found at 6233 Hollywood Boulevard, Los Angeles, California. It consists of 2,711 stars embedded into the sidewalk along Hollywood Boulevard. Each star represents someone who made motion pictures, television or radio, as well as music and other aspects of popular culture. There are 1,922 individuals currently listed on HWOF.
To become a member of HWOF you will need to submit your name at the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. This submits your name then to the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs. Once approved, a certificate will be sent to you stating that you are eligible. This includes your name as well as date of birth and the city where you live. You will also receive a bronze plaque engraved with your name. This plaque will be attached to a base of concrete in front the designated star.
You can apply for a star if a current member of the HWOF nominated you or if you made significant contributions to movies, television, radio, theatre, music, or something else considered part of "popular culture." A committee evaluates all nominations and then decides whether to approve them. If they do, they send a letter to the applicant's home address explaining their decision. The person who accepts the nomination will receive a second confirmation letter. The Hollywood Chamber of commerce will then pay $25. This money is forwarded to the Department of Cultural Affairs of Los Angeles.
The department issues the Hollywood Chamber of commerce a check, payable to it. The check is sent to the Hollywood Walk of Fame Foundation. The foundation pays artists or organizations whose applications were accepted. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce then pays half of the fee ($12.50). The other half goes to the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs.
Once the artist receives his/her star he/she will be eligible to be inducted into the HWOF. To be eligible to list on the HWOF you will need to pay the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce all outstanding balance. The amount due is dependent on the number of years since you were first recognized. For example, $15,000. Suppose you were first nominated as a nominee in 1990. You'd owe $10,000 if you were previously nominated in 1990.
You can remove yourself from HWOF by contacting the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce to pay the rest of your debt. They will remove the name of your from the list.
How old do you have to be in order to receive a star on HWOF?
You must be at the least 18 year old to be nominated. To receive a coveted star, one must be at least 18 years old. After receiving a Star, one can still be Nominated for another star after ten Years.
What happens if I die before my star gets put up?
You can be nominated by your family members to receive a star. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce will place an honorary marker in front of the star if there are no living relatives.
Why not just have stars on every street?
The HWOF was not created to be a historical landmark. It is intended to honor all those who have made film history possible.
What happened to the stars that got stolen? The thieves took approximately 1,200 stars. Each star is between 250-300 lbs. If you add all of the weight together, it comes to approximately 4 tons of stars!
