FAQ

Why is Hollywood calling this Hollywood?

D.W. Griffith was the one who founded California's first film industry. It was named for its Los Angeles location, also known as Hollywood at that time.

It was an exciting place to visit and the name stuck. It attracted people from all over the world to check out what was happening.

Hollywood is still an integral part of American culture. We have movies and television shows, music videos, commercials and so on. These are all known as Hollywood.

Why don't more filmmakers use crowdfunding websites like Indiegogo or Kickstarter?

Crowdfunding websites are great because you can reach potential investors directly.

But most filmmakers don't think they're qualified to ask for money. They feel that they need someone else to vouch for them.

Even though they aren't yet proven to be themselves, they don't believe that anyone should put money into them.

Instead, they spend months working hard on their project in the hope that someone will notice.

They realize that they did not prepare well when they launch their campaign.

Instead of receiving thousands of dollars, they receive a few donations.

How much does it take to distribute a feature?

Distribution deals typically cost $100,000 to $150,000.

The average theater cost is about $10,000.

The average screen cost is about $5,000

That means that if you have 100 screens, then your distribution fee would be around $500,000.

Distributor fees of $50,000 would apply if there are ten screens.

How many theaters are necessary to make my investment back?

It depends on how much time you intend to keep your theatrical release running.

If your film is going to be run for less then two weeks, one theater will suffice.

If your film is going to be screened for more then two weeks, you will need two theaters.

What is the difference in a distributor and a producer?

The movie is made by a producer. The movie is distributed via a distributor. Distributors, theaters and other companies, such as Netflix, can be sold directly by producers. Distributors purchase movies directly from producers. They then sell them to theaters and cable channels or streaming services.

Distributors will need to negotiate with theatre owners about the location of their movies. This means that certain movies might be more expensive at some theaters than others. A distributor should have multiple theaters in order to ensure that your movie is seen by as many people possible.

What do actors earn?

The average actor's salary ranges between $1 million and $100,000 depending on whether the film is independent or a movie. Most actors get between $10,000-$20,000 per film. Many actors aren't paid. It depends on how successful they are. Actors can make millions, while others have trouble finding work.
