FAQ

Does Hollywood make more money from foreign sales than domestic sales?

Yes, but only slightly. Foreign revenues made up about 17% of total revenue in 2017. 83% of total revenue came from domestic sources.

In fact, more than half the world's people live in overseas markets.

This means many people who might never watch a movie at home will still want to see yours.

How many movies is Hollywood making in a single year?

Hollywood studios make approximately 3,000 films annually. That's right, 3000!

Hollywood spends billions on advertising for these films. They spend millions producing them. They also spend millions on marketing them. How many end up being released in theaters?

The answer is most likely between 200 and 300. What happens then to the 2,700+ remaining films? Well, most are either made as direct-to-video releases, or they just sit there gathering dust in storage vaults.

However, not all of them are unavoidable. Some have been chosen for distribution via Netflix or Amazon Prime, Hulu Plus and iTunes, Google Play and other platforms.

So why don't we see more of them? They are not being released in theaters. Because they are too expensive to make.

If they were more affordable to produce they would be released into theaters.

That's where my expertise comes in. I can help you to find the best way to get your film into theaters.

I will show you how to maximize the return on your investment (ROI), and increase your chances of seeing your film in theaters.

Because let's face it...

It can be difficult to get your movie into theaters. The process is complex, lengthy and involves many legalities.

It might also cost you a lot before you start.

Even worse, your window of opportunity to distribute your film is very limited.

There simply isn't enough time between when a film is finished, and its theatrical run begins.

What's the difference of an indie movie and a foreign-language film?

A filmmaker typically makes an independent film. This is because he or she makes every decision.

However, foreign language films are typically produced by a larger production group.

They often hire actors, writers, and directors from other countries.

They also hire professional translators so that the dialogue sounds natural.

Why isn't there more crowdfunding sites such as Indiegogo and Kickstarter for filmmakers?

Crowdfunding sites can be great as they let you reach out to potential investors.

Most filmmakers don’t believe they have the right to ask for money. They feel that they need someone else to vouch for them.

They don't believe anyone should invest in them, as they have not proven their worth yet.

Instead, they spend months working on their project, hoping someone will eventually notice.

Then they realize that they didn't properly prepare for the launch of their campaign.

Instead of thousands of dollar, they get a handful of donations.

Can I create my own distribution organization?

No. You cannot legally operate a distribution company without being a distributor.

You don't have to distribute films from other people, but you must still follow certain rules.

You cannot charge different prices to different theaters. Also, you cannot charge different fees to different customers.

Your services cannot be sold to any company.

How To

How to get an honor star on Hollywood Walk of Fame

The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce founded the Hollywood Walk of Fame, HWOF (Hollywood Walk of Fame) in 1960. The HWOF can be found at 6233 Hollywood Boulevard, Los Angeles, California. It has 2,711 stars embedded in the Hollywood Boulevard sidewalk. Each star represents someone who made motion pictures, television or radio, as well as music and other aspects of popular culture. The HWOF currently lists 1,922 people.

To become a member of the HWOF, you must submit your name to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, which then submits your name to the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs. Once approved, you receive a certificate of eligibility, which includes your name, date of birth, city of residence, occupation, and category. You also receive a bronze plaque with your name engraved on it. This plaque is attached directly to the concrete base, in front of designated stars.

You can apply for a star if a current member of the HWOF nominated you or if you made significant contributions to movies, television, radio, theatre, music, or something else considered part of "popular culture." A committee evaluates all nominations and then decides whether to approve them. If they do, they will send a letter explaining their decision to the applicant at his/her home address. If the person accepts the nomination, he/she receives a second letter confirming acceptance. The Hollywood Chamber of commerce will then pay $25. This money is forwarded to the Department of Cultural Affairs of Los Angeles.

The department issues the Hollywood Chamber of commerce a check, payable to it. The check is sent to the Hollywood Walk of Fame Foundation. The foundation pays the application submitted by the artist or organization. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce then pays half of the fee ($12.50). The City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs takes the other half.

After the artist has been awarded his/her star, they are eligible to join the HWOF. To be eligible to list on the HWOF you will need to pay the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce all outstanding balance. You would be responsible for $10,000 if you had been nominated previously in 1980.

If you want to remove yourself from the HWOF, you need to contact the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce and pay off the remainder of your debt. They will remove you from the list.

What age is required to become a HWOF star?

When nominated, one must have at least 18-years-old. To receive a coveted star, one must be at least 18 years old. A star can be renominated after 10 years.

What happens if I die before my star gets put up?

Why don't people just use a different street instead of having stars all over the place?

The HWOF was not created to be a historical landmark. It is meant to honor those who contributed to film history.

What happened to the stars that got stolen? The thieves stole approximately 1,200 stars. Each star weighs approximately 250-300 pounds, which equates to 4 tons of stars.
