FAQ

Why don’t more filmmakers use crowdfunding platforms like Indiegogo, Kickstarter, and others?

Crowdfunding websites are great because you can reach potential investors directly.

Many filmmakers aren't qualified to ask money. They feel they need someone to stand by them.

And since they haven't proven themselves yet, they don't think anyone should invest in them.

Instead, they spend months working hard on their project in the hope that someone will notice.

Then they realize that they didn't properly prepare for the launch of their campaign.

Instead of receiving thousands of dollars, they receive a few donations.

Why aren't more independent films distributed?

Most indie filmmakers assume that their films will get picked up by distributors.

Because they are confident that the public will love their film, they believe distributors would be willing to buy it.

However, this is rarely the case. Distributors often take advantage of independent filmmakers.

They might delay a film’s release date until after the awards show has finished.

Or they delay the release date of a low-budget film until after the summer blockbuster season has begun.

Distributors try to keep films out of the hands of audiences until they've spent hundreds on tickets, popcorn, and candy.

They don't want these profits to be lost.

What is the difference between an independent film and a film in another language?

An independent film is usually made by a single filmmaker who makes his or her own decisions about everything.

The opposite is true for foreign language films. They are usually produced by a larger production company.

They often hire actors, writer, and directors from abroad.

They also hire professional translators so that the dialogue sounds natural.

How To

How to get an honor star on Hollywood Walk of Fame

The Hollywood Walk of Fame (HWOF) was established in 1960 by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. The HWOF can be found at 6233 Hollywood Boulevard, Los Angeles, California. It has 2,711 stars embedded in the Hollywood Boulevard sidewalk. Each star represents someone who contributed to motion pictures, television, radio, theater, music, or some aspect of popular culture. There are currently 1,922 living persons listed on the HWOF.

You must first submit your name and address to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce to become a member of HWOF. The Hollywood Department of Cultural Affairs then submits your information to the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs. Once approved, you receive a certificate of eligibility, which includes your name, date of birth, city of residence, occupation, and category. A bronze plaque with your name inscribed on it is also included. This plaque is attached to a concrete base located in front of the designated Star.

If you were nominated by an HWOF member, or if there are significant contributions made to the entertainment, film, radio, theatre, and music industries, you may be eligible for a "star" award. A committee evaluates the nominations and decides whether to approve them. If they do so, they send a message to the applicant's address explaining their decision. The person who accepts the nomination will receive a second confirmation letter. The Hollywood Chamber of commerce then sends $25 to the City of Los Angles Department of Cultural Affairs.

The department issues a check payable to the Hollywood Chamber of commerce, which sends the check to the Hollywood Walk of Fame Foundation. The foundation pays the artist or organization whose application was accepted. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce receives half of the fee ($12.50). The City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs takes the other half.

After the artist has been awarded his/her star, they are eligible to join the HWOF. To be eligible to list on the HWOF you will need to pay the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce all outstanding balance. The amount due will depend on when you were first nominated. If you were first honoured in 1990, then you would owe $15,000. For example, if your first nomination was in 1990, you would owe $15,000. However, if it had been in 1980, you would owe 10,000.

You can remove yourself from HWOF by contacting the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce to pay the rest of your debt. They will remove your name from this list.

How old do you have to be in order to receive a star on HWOF?

To be nominated, one must be at least 18 years. To be eligible for a star, you must still be alive. After receiving a stars, one could still be nominated after ten more years.

What happens if I die before my star gets put up?

Nominating you can be done by family members. If no relatives are living, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce may place a memorial stone in front of your star.

Why can't we just choose a different street and not have stars all over?

The HWOF is not meant to be a historical monument. It's meant to be a tribute to those who have contributed to film history.

What happened the star thefts? The thieves stole around 1,200 stars. Each star is between 250-300 lbs. If you add all of the weight together, it comes to approximately 4 tons of stars!
