FAQ

What is the difference among a producer or distributor?

The movie is made by a producer. The movie is distributed via a distributor. A distributor can distribute the movie to theaters or other companies such as Netflix. Distributors acquire movies from producers. They then sell them to theaters and cable channels or streaming services.

Distributors will need to negotiate with theatre owners about the location of their movies. This means that some theaters may charge more to see a certain movie than others. If you want your movie to be seen by as many people as possible, you should choose a distributor with many theaters.

Why aren't more independent films distributed?

Indie filmmakers are assuming that distributors will be interested in their films.

They are certain distributors will take their films, as they know that the public will love them.

However, this is rarely the case. Distributors often take advantage of independent filmmakers.

They may delay a film's release until after the awards season is over.

They might delay the release of low-budget films until after the summer blockbuster series has begun.

Distributors may also keep films from the public until people have already spent hundreds of money on tickets, popcorn or candy.

They don't want any of those profits to go to waste.
