Did you know that the ukulele in Hawaiian means 'gift or reward'? This brand new entrant to the music business is a family-owned company that was founded in Honolulu (Hawaii). Its history goes back to 1879 when Manuel Nunes, a sugarcane farmer from Portugal, arrived in Hawaii. He was able to find a home in Hawaii, and developed the ukulele from the native portugese instrument, the braguinha.

In Hawaiian, "UKULELE" is a synonym for "gift or reward".

The Hawaiian words uku' and lele (which mean gift or reward' or ’come' respectively) are the origins of the name UKULELE. It is also possible to call the instrument a play on words like 'gift' and'reward'. Queen Lili'uokalani explained the origin of the instrument in 1876. The word 'ukulele,' literally means gift or reward'.

It is an unknown newcomer into the music industry

The novelty instrument of the ukulele first became popular in the mid-nineteenth centuries. It was available at Sears for just a few dollars and also included lessons for no cost. The ukulele made its debut in the early 20th century at various expositions including the World's Columbian Exposition, Chicago, and the Mid-Winter Festival, San Francisco. George E. Awai led a Hawaiian group that played ukuleles. A recording of Hawaiian music was also made.

FAQ

Why do so few independent films ever get distributed?

Indie filmmakers are assuming that distributors will be interested in their films.

Because they are confident that the public will love their film, they believe distributors would be willing to buy it.

This is not often the case. Distributors often profit from independent filmmakers.

They might delay a film’s release date until after the awards show has finished.

They may delay the release of a low budget film until after summer blockbuster season begins.

Distributors will also attempt to keep movies away from viewers until they have spent hundreds of dollars on popcorn, tickets, or candy.

They don't want these profits to be lost.

What percentage of the box office goes to marketing budgets?

Marketing budgets usually account for anywhere from 20%-40% of a film's budget. This is because marketing is critical to the success and longevity of any film.

Without marketing, nobody will know anything about your film. It is impossible to get people to pay for your film without knowing all about it.

Hollywood's fame?

The answer was obvious. Because they were willing take risks and do something completely different, it became famous. They made films that would last a lifetime.

They were also bold enough to try new ideas.
