FAQ

Why are so few independent films ever distributed?

Indie filmmakers are assuming that distributors will be interested in their films.

Because they are confident that the public will love their film, they believe distributors would be willing to buy it.

But, it is very rare that this happens. Distributors often use independent filmmakers.

They use tactics such as delaying a film's release date until after awards season has ended.

They might delay the release of low-budget films until after the summer blockbuster series has begun.

Distributors may also keep films from the public until people have already spent hundreds of money on tickets, popcorn or candy.

After all, they don't want to lose out on those profits.

Is Hollywood bigger than Bollywood?

Producing films that are well-received is the most difficult challenge.

Problem is, there are many movies competing to people's attention and money. You won't be noticed if your movie isn't unique.

But what makes a movie great? What makes an actor famous? Or a director? It's not just talent - it's also luck. No matter how talented your actors are, if they have poor scripts, it will be impossible to get the job done.

Films can be divided into two categories: blockbuster films with large budgets or independent productions. Blockbuster movies cost hundreds of millions of dollars to produce and distribute. They are made by huge studios, who want to make sure their movies reach as many people possible. But big-budget films appeal more to older audiences.

Independent films can be smaller productions funded by individuals or groups. These films tend to target niche markets and are tailored to specific tastes. They're usually less expensive to produce and market. But, they aren't necessarily cheaper to view. Most indie films are difficult to find.

The question is: Do we really need both types of movies? Are we going to need both big blockbuster movies or small independent films? Hollywood is bigger than Bollywood, according to me. Hollywood produces nearly twice as many movies annually as India.

Do I have the right to start my own distribution firm?

No. Without being a distributor, you cannot legally establish a distribution company.

Even though you may not be distributing other people's films, you still have to follow certain rules.

You can't, for example, charge different prices to different theaters. You cannot also charge different fees to customers.

Also, you can't offer your services to any other company.

How many movies does Hollywood make a year?

The number of films produced by Hollywood studios each year is approximately 3,000. That's right, 3000!

Hollywood spends billions on film advertising. They spend millions to produce them. They also spend millions on marketing them. How many end up being released in theaters?

It is likely that the answer is between 200-300. The question is, what happens to all the other 2,700+ films? Many of the films are either directly-to-video released or left to collect dust in storage vaults.

Some of them may not be seen. Some of them are available for distribution via Netflix and Amazon Prime, Hulu Plus or iTunes, Google Play, and others.

Hence, why aren't there more of them? Why aren’t they being shown in theaters instead? They're too costly to produce.

And if they were cheaper to produce, they'd be released into theaters.

That's where my expertise comes in. I can help you to find the best way to get your film into theaters.

I will show you how to maximize the return on your investment (ROI), and increase your chances of seeing your film in theaters.

Let's face facts...

Getting your film into theaters can be quite difficult. It is a complex, long-winded and complicated process that requires a lot of legalities.

It may also cost you plenty of money before you even get started.

To make matters worse, the window of time during which you can distribute your film is extremely limited.

There is not enough time to wait between the completion of a film and its theatrical release.

Why aren't more filmmakers using crowdfunding sites like Indiegogo and Kickstarter?

Crowdfunding websites are great because you can reach potential investors directly.

Filmmakers don't feel qualified to ask for funds. They feel they need someone to stand by them.

They don't believe anyone should invest in them, as they have not proven their worth yet.

Instead, they spend months working hard on their project in the hope that someone will notice.

Then, once they finally launch their campaign, they realize they didn't prepare properly.

Instead of receiving thousands upon thousands of dollars, the recipients end up with a handful donations.

Is the Hollywood Walk of Fame a free thing?

Yes! It is not necessary to pay for admission to the Hollywood Walk of Fame. For photographers, you need a permit. They cost $15 per head.

Bring a valid ID if your intention is to visit Hollywood Walk of Fame.

You must accompany someone over 21 years of age if you are younger than 18.

The walkway cannot be entered until 10 AM.

Once inside, you may not leave the walkway without paying again.

There are no cameras allowed inside the walkway.

What happens when my film doesn't perform well at the box office?

Poor box office performance can lead to many complications.

First, it is possible to decide to modify how you market the film.

Second, you may decide to rewrite the script.

Third, you might decide to add new characters.

Fourth, you might decide to remove some characters.

Fifth, you might choose to cut scenes.

Sixth: You might decide the film was not worth making.

How To

How to get a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame

In 1960, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce created the Hollywood Walk of Fame (HWOF). The HWOF is located at 6233 Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles, California. It's made up of 2,711 stars, which are embedded in the sidewalk on Hollywood Boulevard. Each star represents someone who contributed to motion pictures, television, radio, theater, music, or some aspect of popular culture. There are currently 1,922 active individuals on the HWOF.

You must first submit your name and address to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce to become a member of HWOF. The Hollywood Department of Cultural Affairs then submits your information to the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs. Once approved, you receive a certificate of eligibility, which includes your name, date of birth, city of residence, occupation, and category. A bronze plaque with your personalization is also provided. This plaque is attached to a concrete base located in front of the designated Star.

You may apply to be a star if you are nominated by a HWOF member or if you make significant contributions to television, radio, TV, theatre, music or other forms of "popular culture". A committee evaluates all nominations and then decides whether to approve them. If they do so, they send a message to the applicant's address explaining their decision. The person who accepts the nomination will receive a second confirmation letter. The applicant then pays $25 to the Hollywood Chamber of commerce, which forwards the money to the City of Los Angles Department of Cultural Affairs.

The department issues a check payable the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, which then sends the check directly to the Hollywood Walk of Fame Foundation. The foundation pays the artist or organization whose application was accepted. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce pays half of the $12.50 fee to the artist or organization. The City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs gets the rest.

After the artist has been awarded his/her star, they are eligible to join the HWOF. To be listed on the HWOF, you must pay the remaining balance owed to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. The amount due depends on how many years ago you were first nominated. If you were first honoured in 1990, then you would owe $15,000. You would be responsible for $10,000 if you had been nominated previously in 1980.

You can remove yourself from HWOF by contacting the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce to pay the rest of your debt. They will remove your name from this list.

How old does one have to get a star on the HWOF?

You must be at the least 18 year old to be nominated. A person must be present at the time of receiving a star. One can still be nominated after receiving a star after ten years.

What happens if I die before my star gets put up?

Family members may nominate you to be a star. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce will place an honorary marker in front of the star if there are no living relatives.

Why not just have stars on every street?

The HWOF doesn't intend to be historical monument. It honors those who made history through film.

What happened to the stolen stars? The thieves took around 1,200 stars. Each star weighs between 250-300 lbs, so if you add up all the weight, that comes out to about 4 tons worth of stars!
